Having the ability to devote my summer to research without the stress of class attracted me to Seifert Scholars program. Thanks to this program I can have more time to run experiments and learn more lab techniques. This is also a great experience for me because I want to go to graduate school. I am learning how to make my own schedule for the week based on my experiments.
šš”šš š¢š¬ š²šØš®š« š«šš¬ššš«šš”?
My research focuses on developing a sanitizer that is resistant to C. difficile, a popular hospital acquired infection. Currently I am working on abrasion tests for different formulations. The lab is currently testing the formulation against less intense strains of bacteria with the intention of moving onto growing spores and testing the sanitizer against surrogate spores for C. difficile. Once the formulation has been perfected, the hope is that this sanitizer will be distributed throughout hospitals to stop the spread of C. difficile.

Seifert Scholars is giving me more research experience and more independence so that I can be comfortable when I am a graduate student. The program is giving me valuable time in which I can participate in workshops and do my research. I have already had the opportunity to participate in a workshop in IMAGE J. I am learning valuable lab techniques that will make me a stronger candidate for graduate school.

I am applying to graduate programs in microbiology and biomedical research this fall. I intend to start graduate school after I graduate next May. Iām currently involved in a cancer research lab along with my current project this summer. I intend to work in a lab doing clinical research. I am excited to see what opportunity will present itself next.
