Eukaryotic microbial pathogens cause significant disease globally, and more locally, threaten the health of citizens in South Carolina and the Southeast. Clemson University’s foundation in eukaryotic pathogens research led to the formation of the Eukaryotic Pathogens Innovation Center, formally approved by the University Board of Trustees in January 2013. This has strengthened this important area of biomedical research. EPIC’s overarching theme is the study of eukaryotic pathogens using state-of-the-art molecular, cellular, biochemical, genetic and genomic approaches.

The PI and the Administrative Core Leaders oversee management of the project. Among their responsibilities are budget oversight, mentoring, hiring, creation of center culture, intramural and extramural communication, and future planning. The PI and Administrative Core Leaders represent a strong leadership team and will create an administrative core to carry out these duties.
