What attracted you to the Seifert Scholars program?
What attracted me to become a Seifert Scholar is the programs’ focus on supporting students who are looking to create an impact on their direct community. The contribution is unique in that students are encouraged to build scientific research locally.
What is your research?
Research in Dr. Dhingra’s lab focuses on identifying molecular mechanisms of azole drug responses associated with the pathogenic fungus Aspergillus fumigatus. My project has been to identify phenotypic differences in strands of the fungus, observe how those differences may impact growth, and to extract DNA for labeling.
What has been the impact of the Seifert Scholars on your career?
Thanks to the Seifert Scholars program, I can say that I was able to contribute my passion to an innovative project as just an undergraduate student. The rigors and responsibility of research have become clear to me in ways that I would not have been prepared for otherwise!
What is the next step of your career?
The next step in my career is to complete one more year of schooling to obtain my Medical Lab Technician Certification in order to provide vital information for those seeking accurate information about their health.
