Dr. Afreen Sultana is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Clemson University, where she is working on a biomaterials and optimization of controlled release system of essential oil. She earned her Ph.D. in Packaging Sciences from Clemson University in 2025. Her research experience on sustainable, high-performance biopolymers, including lignocellulosic nanofibers from agricultural waste (such as peach pits), starch-based films, barrier coatings, and intelligent packaging that signals food freshness. She has five years of hands-on experience in material characterization and performance testing, using techniques such as FTIR, DSC/TGA, XRD, SEM/TEM, and OTR/WVTR analysis.
Her work has been recognized with a Hitachi Fellowship for electron microscopy research and has been presented at AAAS and TAPPICon 2026. She also mentors undergraduate and high school students and has contributed to grant proposals with industry and academic collaborators.
