Biosketch

Prothama “Pro” Manna, Ph.D., is a postdoctoral fellow in the population epigenomics lab in the Clemson University Institute for Human Genetics. She holds an integrated B.S.-M.S. degree from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research in Kolkata, India, where she worked on canine acoustic behavior under the supervision of Anindita Bhadra, Ph.D. She received her doctorate in biological sciences from Ohio University, working with Diego Alvarado-Serrano, Ph.D. Her doctoral research focused on the ecological and evolutionary processes underlying biological invasions, integrating demographic modeling with empirical genomic data.

Research Interests

Manna’s current research, conducted with Shyamalika Gopalan, Ph.D., examines how natural selection and genetic drift jointly shape differences in complex trait genetic architecture across human populations. Her work specifically emphasizes how demographic history and non-equilibrium evolutionary processes mediate these effects by influencing genetic diversity and trait variation. Broadly, her research seeks to improve understanding of how evolutionary history constrains GWAS inference and trait portability across populations in the context of rapid environmental and demographic change.
