Biosketch
I graduated with a first-class degree in Zoology at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, in 2016. After the mandatory one-year national service in Nigeria, I obtained an M.Sc. in Cell Biology and Genetics at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, in 2021. During my masters in Ibadan, I worked on “Genetics of Vascular Cognitive Impairment (VCI) in stroke survivors in Indigenous West Africans at Neuroscience and Ageing Research Unit, College of Medicine, Ibadan under Professor Rufus Akinyemi. My interest in understanding the nexus between evolution and complex traits and diseases led to winning the prestigious Erasmus Mundus joint master’s degree award to study Evolutionary Biology in four partner European Institutions. While at the University of Montpellier in France, I worked on the propagation of third-generation AMR bacteria in yellow-legged gulls and the genetic adaptation of Anopheles bwambae in Bwambe County, Uganda under Dr Bedhomme and Prof. Fontaine respectively. I rounded up the program at the University of Groningen, where I worked with Dr. E. Geuverink and Prof. Leo on sex-determination genes in black soldier flies. I am a Research Assistant in Dr Shyamalika Gopalan’s lab, where I will work on understanding the epigenetics and genetic basis of aging in human populations and other closely related species.
Research Interest
My broad research interests involve understanding the genetic basis of complex traits including those of clinical importance such as ageing and ageing diseases. I am also interested in evolutionary history, signals of past selection, and life history traits shape human population and their health.
