Biosketch

Ranga Baminiwatte, originally from Colombo, Sri Lanka, earned his B.Sc. in Applied Mathematics and Informatics from the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE) in Moscow, Russia. At HSE, he conducted research on eye movement traces of linguistic knowledge in non-native reading. Ranga joined Clemson University School of Computing in 2023 to pursue a PhD in Biomedical Data Science and Informatics. Currently, he’s working under the supervision of Dr. Aaron. J. Massino. Outside of academics, he enjoys watching movies, playing video games and trying out different cuisines.

Research

Ranga joined Masino lab for a rotation in January 2024, and has been a full time member since August 2024. His research interests include (1) improving the diagnostic rates of rare genetic disorders (RGDs) by integrating genetic sequence data, in-silico variant pathogenicity prediction, and phenomic information. (2) Developing Artificial Intelligence in Rare Disease Clinical Care and Research (CCER) that incorporates formal biological knowledge with multimodal patient data.
