Clemson University’s Physics and Astronomy Department Graduate Student Organization
About
Welcome to the Graduate Student Organization (GSO) of the department of Physics and Astronomy (or PandA). The GSO prioritizes the wellbeing of graduate students and seeks to unify and support all students in the department. We host social events, town halls, and bridge the gap between the faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students. This page is dedicated to the organization and all of our graduate students. You can find recent achievements and papers of our graduate students here.
GSO Spotlight
The GSO hosted the 15th Annual Symposium for the Introduction to Research in Physics and Astronomy (SIRPA) to kick off the 2025 Fall semester. We had the honor of welcoming Dr. Nour Rawafi, Project Scientist of the Parker Solar Probe and Principal Professional Staff at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, as the keynote speaker for the 15th SIRPA.
Dr. Rawafi shared the journey of the Parker Solar Probe from its early conception at the beginnings of NASA to the technical challenges of building and launching the mission toward the Sun. In his talk, Dr. Rawafi also went into detail of the current and recent discoveries the Parker Solar Probe has given us about Earth’s closest star.
SIRPA serves as an introduction for new graduate students to see ongoing research in the Physics and Astronomy Department at Clemson University. The symposium featured 14 graduate student talks on current research and 20 group posters showcasing the work of the department’s research groups.
