About

Welcome to the Graduate Student Organization (GSO) of the department of Physics and Astronomy (or PandA). The GSO prioritizes the wellbeing of graduate students and seeks to unify and support all students in the department. We host social events, town halls, and bridge the gap between the faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students. This page is dedicated to the organization and all of our graduate students. You can find recent achievements and papers of our graduate students *here*. Information on upcoming social events and workshops can be found *here*.

Student Spotlight

The GSO awards an outstanding graduate student each month by highlighting their accomplishments and research. This month’s student spotlight goes to Madeline Clyburn for her community outreach giving a science and perspective talk to a local community high school.

“I’m a 4th year PhD student working in Dr. Zrake’s research group. I study binary black holes using hydrodynamic simulations to understand the electromagnetic signatures from the inspiral and merger of these binaries. Outside of research I love painting, hiking, and spending time with my dog Daisy. I was able to give a Ted Talk presentation at D. W. Daniel high school on my journey to studying astrophysics and finding my purpose. I also was able to include some of my black hole research in my presentation.”
