To accomplish this, REU students in our program performed research in projects linked to\u00a0<strong>Materials with Targeted Functions: from fundamentals to applications<\/strong>. The selected areas allowed exposing participants to a broad research experience across disciplines and to take advantage of the concept of cluster mentoring. As a new element, also stemming from comments from past participants, the program also targeted social competencies. This program is directed by Drs.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/science\/departments\/chemistry\/people\/faculty\/garcia.html\">Carlos D. Garcia<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/science\/departments\/chemistry\/people\/profiles\/billp\">Bill Pennington<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/science\/departments\/chemistry\/people\/faculty\/houjeiry.html\">Tania I. Houjeiry\u00a0<\/a>(Coordinator). The REU program will provide financial support to cover travel expenses (flight to GSP and ground transportation to Clemson), on-campus housing, meals, and a $5,500 scholarship. The REU grant will not pay for any other expense outside the scope of the sponsored activity. This program was financed by the NSF \u2013 Division of Chemistry, award <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsf.gov\/awardsearch\/showAward?AWD_ID=2050042\">CHE-2050042<\/a> (2021-2024) and is now closed.
