Despite impressive progress in materials research, significant challenges await in terms of our fundamental understanding of the appropriate coupled spin, charge, orbital, and lattice degrees of freedom necessary for creating and tuning targeted physical phenomena and capabilities for materials. To address this, we aim to build desired functionalities into new materials by combining chemical principles, appropriate synthetic techniques, advanced structural and physical properties characterization (e.g., advanced synchrotron X-ray, neutron scattering, spectroscopic methods, electronic and optical properties), analytical modeling, and bonding theories.<\/p>\n
<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-366 size-full lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/scienceweb.clemson.edu\/tranlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/08\/Picture2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"4174\" height=\"2254\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/scienceweb.clemson.edu\/tranlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/08\/Picture2.png 4174w, https:\/\/scienceweb.clemson.edu\/tranlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/08\/Picture2-300x162.png 300w, https:\/\/scienceweb.clemson.edu\/tranlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/08\/Picture2-1024x553.png 1024w, https:\/\/scienceweb.clemson.edu\/tranlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/08\/Picture2-768x415.png 768w, https:\/\/scienceweb.clemson.edu\/tranlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/08\/Picture2-1536x829.png 1536w, https:\/\/scienceweb.clemson.edu\/tranlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/08\/Picture2-2048x1106.png 2048w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 4174px) 100vw, 4174px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 4174px;
