Trudy Mackay was first elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2010. She\u2019s also now the University\u2019s first-ever member of the prestigious National Academy of Medicine (NAM). Election to the Academy recognizes individuals who have made major contributions to the advancement of medical sciences, health care and public health.<\/p>\n<p>Mackay, director of the Clemson University Institute for Human Genetics, was selected as one of the world\u2019s leading geneticists for her pioneering studies on the genetic architecture of complex traits and her discovery of fundamental principles of quantitative genetics with broad applications to medicine.<\/p>\n<p>Mackay, the Self Family Endowed Chair of Human Genetics at Clemson, said the NAM honor will enhance Clemson\u2019s advancement of precision medicine.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2282\" title=\"Photo 2025 12 09 085826\" src=\"https:\/\/scienceweb.clemson.edu\/ihg\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/12\/Photo_2025-12-09_085826-300x217.jpg\" alt=\"Photo 2025 12 09 085826\" width=\"362\" height=\"262\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Dr. Victor J.
