Chosen from a competitive applicant pool, these individuals were recognized for the strength and originality of their proposed minireview topic and their emerging track record in infection biology and immunology.<\/p>\n<p>Selected applicants were invited to submit a minireview to IAI. Their submissions will undergo full peer review, and accepted minireviews will be published in the <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.asm.org\/topic\/sss-taxonomy\/special-series-iai-eci\">New Voices in Infection and Immunity collection<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Stephen Dolan is am EPIC microbiologist whose research focuses on polymicrobial interactions in cystic fibrosis airway infections, particularly fungal-bacterial communities. To understand amoeba responses to tow different experimental anti-amebic compounds, Caroline and Jillian grew amoeba in sub-lethal doses of compound for weeks and then assessed changes in phenotype responses to agents at the level of transcriptional and metabolic modifications. The NIH R01 award (R01AI93220) is a collaboration with the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. This honor is awarded to one student from each of Clemson\u2019s seven colleges who has demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and leadership on campus.<\/p>\n<p>Mallory has been a dedicated research team member in Dr. Stephen Dolan\u2019s lab, where she investigates the RTA1-like protein family\u2014potential therapeutic targets against pathogens. She has presented her work at two national conferences and is a co-author on a forthcoming publication.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to her research, Mallory has mentored first-year medical students through EPIC\u2019s MEnTOR program and holds leadership roles in the Honors College as chair of the Student Advisory Board, a curriculum committee delegate, and a peer mentor.
