color<\/li>\n<li>Explore light, color, and diffraction by building a spectroscope<\/li>\n<li>Design and build a kaleidoscope<\/li>\n<li>Investigating how light can play tricks on our test your own \u201cbattle bot\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>* The cost of this lab is $24.00, which includes a motor and battery for each students&#8217; &#8220;Battle bot&#8221;. Students will be able to take their &#8220;battle bot&#8221; home with them after the lab. *[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong>Mystery of the Dead Hemlock<br \/>\n(ages 8-12)\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In this lab, students will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Create a mixture and make observations about its properties as its state of matter changes<\/li>\n<li>Learn techniques to micropipette and measure small quantities of liquids<\/li>\n<li>Discover and identify elements in the hemlock ecosystem, including producers, consumers, and decomposers<\/li>\n<li>Perform gel electrophoresis to compare DNA from known pests to an unknown tree killer (scientists use this method to separate out parts of a mixture)<\/li>\n<li>Discuss possible solutions communities can use to stop the unknown tree killer and save the hemlock ecosystem<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong>Osmosis and Diffusion<br \/>\n(ages 8\u201312)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b>In this lab, students will:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc\">\n<li>Use change in mass to determine if osmosis has occurred<\/li>\n<li>Participate in the \u201cChallenge of the Barriers\u201d to explore diffusion<\/li>\n<li>Apply diffusion to mobilize color<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row content_placement=&#8221;middle&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>A teacher, co-op leader, parent or guardian must be present for all Co-Op labs. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>This designated person needs to be in the lab or lobby at all times in case of an emergency.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Homeschool Day Labs can also be Co-Op options.
