Originally, the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI) was constructed by NASA to communicate with satellites during the pioneer days of the nation’s space program. During the Cold War, it was used by the Department of Defense. When the Department of Defense closed the facility, PARI, the not-for-profit public organization was born. PARI is dedicated to providing hands-on educational, business, and research opportunities for users and lovers of STEM.

PARI offers the perfect setting for researching the universe with four massive radio telescopes, including “Smiley”, government-grade satellite tracking and communications, and research-grade optical telescopes. In fact, PARI is currently used by NASA and top astrophysicist researchers to make cutting-edge discoveries in space science.
